Honorable Shri Gulabchand Talakchand Sheth is known as a man of unique devotion, adrent philanthropist and advocate of universal education. He participated in the national movement by taking inspiration from the ideas of respected Gandhiji and also served imprisonment. He achieved great success in the business field. After a short married life, his wife died and instead of remarrying he devoted himself to social service and creative works. He established “Shri Kanta Stri Vikas Gruh” in Rajkot for destitute ladies and children. With his generous donation, a jain hostel was established in Rajkot in 1972 which was transformed into Shri Gulabchand Talakchand Sheth Vidyalaya in 1984. Today this school serves students from kg to 12th std English and Gujarati medium with 43 classes and 2500 student worshiping Maa Saraswati and achieving various achievements and success. It is a leading school run by Jain Kelavni Mandal, to enable the students to develop in all the fields and develop their talent potential. With the aim of developing self belief, devotion, dedication and national spirit, this school is a pride of the city of Rajkot. Currently this school is progressing steadily under the guidance of Shri Dr.Sushilaben Sheth. In addition “Shri G.T. Sheth Orthopedic Hospital” , “K.K. Sheth Physiotherapy Collage”, “ G.T. Sheth Eye Hospital” and “G.T. Sheth Cancer Hospital” are working progressively with Shri Gulabchand Talakchand Sheth’s donation.
He was vice president of Shri Jain education Society and Dashashrimali Bhojanalaya Mumbai and Harijan Sevak Sangh Rajkot. He has also built a high school in his Native place, Patanvav. His whole life is an excellent example. He has dedicated his entire property for public service. He passed away in 1967 but his services and his sweet memories are immortalized in our hearts forever.
